Airbrush Face Painting Safety
Questions and Answers
Is airbrush face painting safe?
YES! The safety of our guests is our highest
priority. Airbrush face painting is actually safer than regular face
painting. We use only high quality makeup, unlike some face painters
who use craft paint! Even with makeup, regular face painting uses
wet brushes which can transfer bacteria easily from person to
person. With airbrush face painting the only wet object that touches
the face is the makeup itself.
Will it get in the eyes?
While this is possible it is highly unlikely, as
your natural reflexes close your eyes in reaction to air blowing on
your eyelashes. Should you override your reflexes and open your eyes
anyway, you will find that it is not quite as irritating as getting
shampoo in your eyes (and just as safe).
Is the glitter safe to use?
We use only non-metallic glitters. Metal glitter
should NEVER be used on or around the face. Non-metal glitter can be
slightly irritating if it gets in your eye, but metal glitter can
permanently damage your eye.
What about the spray, what if I breathe it in?
It is very unlikely that any of our guests could
breathe more than a few particles of makeup when we paint them. We
use very low pressure. This is no aerosol can so we have excellent
control of where the makeup goes and where it doesn't. Again, all
the ingredients used in our makeup are FDA approved and not harmful.
What about allergies?
In the years we have been painting, we have only
been made aware of two allergic reactions. Both reactions were quite
mild and resulted in nothing more than a red rash that went away
within 20 minutes or so. As with any process, those with sensitive
skin should not participate, or should ask for a small test patch.
How do I take it off?
The makeup removes easily with any mild soap, or
most brands of baby wipes. For full face designs we recommend using
baby shampoo so you can wash around the eyes with minimal
irritation. Our makeup is much easier to remove than most paints or
Halloween type makeup.
Can you cover the whole body? I heard that the
skin needs to breathe.
The idea that skin needs to "breathe" is a myth.
Frogs use skin to breathe, people use their lungs. As long as you
are using a makeup with FDA approved ingredients on a model who is
not allergic, you should be perfectly safe.
How long have you been doing this?
DaMISSUS has been face painting for 9 years. We
have been using airbrush to paint faces since 1998.
Is this all you do?
For the last several years we have made our
living as professional face painters, occasionally supplementing our
income with other clown projects. We feel that this allows us to
hone our skills to a much greater degree than if it was just a
"weekend" thing. This is not to say that just working weekends won't
get you great results. Besides that, there are the challenges and
duties associated with any small business. There is always
paperwork, marketing, banking, and improvements to be made.
How is it so fast?
Airbrush method is inherently faster with
stencils than hand painting can be. Add to this that we have used
our years of experience to put together the most efficient set up we
could build. Most cheek designs can be finished in about 20-40
seconds, and most whole faces in about 4-6 minutes.
Some other things you might want to know before
hiring us.
What do we need at the event site
Electricity is nice to have but we can do without
it if necessary. We do request that we be placed in an area that can
be cleaned afterward. If such an area is not available, then we ask
that you provide a cleanable floor covering that is suitable to your
event. In summer we can provide a small umbrella, but for your
guests sake you may wish to place us in a shady spot. In cooler
weather it is imperative that we are in a location that is at least
60degrees F. as the spray makeup can get quite uncomfortable in cold
weather.
Are you insured?
Absolutely. We never carry less than
$1,000,000 in liability insurance, and we recommend that all
entertainers carry the same.
